The Need For Speed

Oh joyous day! Being the last day of November, Telstra has given me an early Christmas present by uncapping my speed limit! I find myself now downloading everything again, from "The Seinfeld Reunion Special" to multiple Champions League Soccer matches haha "Glory glory Man United!"

Other than waking up a mere 20 mins ago (terrible, but so satisfying hehe) I moved the Gym visit today at 11am to tomorrow b/c I wasn't really up for it. Sorry again Steve! I got home early last night too, about 1am but I ended up going online to do the stuff that I normally do when I have the chance to use the computer, namely check soccer results, read some news, check the weather etc. Lately I've been too busy to use the computer and also because my brother and mum have been hogging it through the day!

Last entry I left off on a Friday evening, I ended up going bowling at Chaddy, and later went to Tam's place to give her her present. I got home about 3:30am, and watched three episodes of the Seinfeld marathon Ch10 had going on that night/morning. They started at 8:30pm on Friday and finished at 6am on Saturday morning, now that's what I call entertainment! Haha...if it weren't for bowling, I would have seen more than the 8 of 19 episodes aired that night, but I still think it's a fair effort.

Having slept at about 5ish that morning, I woke up quite late and did more of nothing through the day. It was only until later at night that I received a phone call about watching a movie with Cliff, Chris and Garry. Chris was unavailable though because he was going to Next Blue so it was down to three. We ended up going to Century City to watch "Bad Santa" at 11:50pm which was okay. Cliff didn't seem too impressed at all, but Garry liked it, so I guess we evened out.

My Sunday began slowly, having a lot of interrupted sleep and finally getting out of bed at about 12pm to get ready for Yum Cha at Taipan with Anna's family. At Taipan I bumped into Chris and his family which was pretty funny and his Saturday night sounded better than ours...hehe oh well. Soccer was on at 9:20pm but in the end, we lost 3-10. Feeling disappointed we decided to go to Donny Pannies where Henry and Quoc wanted to claim their two drinks each they won from Dave and I while pokering it at Baillieu Library during swot vac hehe. We ended up playing more poker at Pannies and ended the night around 2:30am.

Yesterday was another slow day, especially with Anna starting vacation work at Ernst & Young, which meant I would have to rely on other people to drive me around hehe. I played more WRC II and got frustrated at the Monaco tracks because there were soooo many 180 degree turns! I'm coming 8th out of 20 overall and a clear 2 mins behind the leader after 2 days of racing dammit. I got a ring from Garry late in the afternoon that there was to be a beach bbq at Chelsea Beach in the evening.

The beach was a tepid affair, particularly because only five of us (Cat, Dave, Garry, Quoc and I) attended after others had piked and also that Garry didn't like the look of the bbq's, which meant it wasn't really a beach bbq...just, well...the beach. We ended up mucking around in the sand and water for a while then headed back to Tam's where we cooked the food. After watching Wesley Snipes in "The Art of War" Dave, Quoc, Garry, Derek and I tried to come up with something to do. Garry suggested knick-knocking, I suggested ghost-hunting (jokingly of course, much to the annoyance of Quoc who remembers all too well what happened last time hehe hey it so wasn't my fault!) but ended up going with Derek's suggestion of having cold drinks at Glenny.

EG was closed by the time we got there (approx. 11:50pm) so we ended up bumming in the carpark next to the station, kicking Dave's soccer ball around. That was a real low point I think, we were complete derros hanging around in the middle of the night at some station carpark. It was still fun though, kicking the ball around, but even the "5-0" drove up to us and suggested we make our way home. That's when we decided to call it a night and head home.

I think I've managed to go out every night for eight nights in a row! (It'll be nine by the end of tonight, I'm having all you can eat meat with Drew & Co.) This is good because I'm keeping myself occupied during the holidays, there is nothing worse than wasting your time and being bored over the holidays because when you've got uni or school, you'll feel like crap when you remember instances where you took the holidays for granted.

Oh yeah, I've also stumbled across two good songs that I didn't put in my "to listen" post a while back. They are:

Keane - Somewhere Only We Know
Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar

I remembered about "Star Guitar" only recently when I started playing WRC II again. It's such a good song, but if you can, download the video clip because that is by far my favourite video clip of all time! It is just so clever!

Mmm, anyway it's 2:30pm and I still haven't had lunch yet, be sure to "watch this space" because I'll be online a lot again given my high download speeds muahahahaha. Laterrrsss!

A Week In The Life Of...

I’ve actually tried to write in here a few times these last few days but for a combination of Telstra BigPond sucking balls (will be justified later), lack of time, sharing the comp. with other members of my family and laziness, I find myself only managing to write in here on a very hot Friday afternoon.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my holidays thus far, always having my days packed with things to do. I think this entry will be relatively long and so if any of you out there are popping on just to have a “quickie” then I apologise now. Basically I’ll outline what’s been going on since Sunday, where I wrote the latest instalment of my blog.

Sunday
Sunday afternoon I got the word from Cliffy that something was gonna go down that night, involving the usual suspects, the boys of old – myself, Cliff, Chris and last and least…Garry (haha sorry dude). Chris was busy with his “hands full” at the Miss Chinese Community Quest in the city, so us other musketeers decided to see “The Grudge” and made our decision at 9:25pm for a 9:40pm session at Chaddy Hoyts. Needless to say, we got there maybe a speeding fine later and about 5 mins into the movie.

We walked out of the movie disappointed to say the least. I guess it was our own fault for deciding on that movie anyway. It was a massive copy of “The Ring” and there was no depth to it at all. Personally, I felt that the only thing it had going for it was the scares through the movie. I’ll give it that and only that, it was “jumpy-scary” at times, made to give you a shock, but there was no more to the movie.

After the movie we met up with Chris at Stalacs and had the usual meat platter. Ahh, Stalacs is always good in wee hours of the morning! We then rounded to Cliffy’s where we had all parked our cars, and we ended the night going on a bit of a cruise around the back streets of Balwyn in Chris’ Peugeot and Cliff’s WRX. There is no more that happened that night and let’s just leave it at that shall we? ;) Hehe…

Monday
Sleeping the previous night at around 4am, I only awoke at 1pm due to Anna coming into my room and shaking me into consciousness. She had had her last exam and I guess was quite invigorated. We went to Camberwell to get her car washed and then headed off to Chaddy to shop around in preparation of the VIP Shopping night on Wednesday.

Later on that night we had dinner at Medici at Docklands to farewell Steve Ta who was going to the USA for 3 months. It was a low-key affair and gave everyone a chance to catch up after exams. The food wasn’t bad and the company was good so it made for a very enjoyable evening. There was karaoke at Sen Bar later on but I decided I wanted to have an early one. I ended up going home and watching about 5 episodes of “The Apprentice” and sleeping about 4:30am.

Tuesday
I planned to go to the city and pay a visit to David Jones because Chadstone DJs, Menswear was disappointing. There were hardly any small sizes of anything and not many colours to choose from either. Anyway, I had $100 to spend from a gift voucher given to DJs employees who had worked the majority of the last financial year. I ended up getting two tops and then headed home to get ready for the SCUC Annual Dinner.

The dinner was good, plenty of food, especially on our table where I was only one of three guys. The adults kept looking over to our table and laughing at how little we had eaten. Oh the shame! Hehe, but in the end a few of us doggy bagged it, so all was not lost! I ended up going home early but slept late because I watched more episodes of “The Apprentice” hehe oh dear.

Wednesday
Originally I wanted to finally hit the gym in the morning but my sleeping pattern had been out of whack for a long time, the many post-4am bedtimes had taken its toll. Again I informed Steve (not Ta, Tran) that I couldn’t make it again. I felt better though when he told me he couldn’t make it either seeing as he slept at 6:30am himself. Haha all good! Anyway, Anna came over to chauffeur me (again…and again and for that I thank you) to Chaddy for the VIP shopping night. Shopping with Anna was interesting to say the least, seeing as she spent a fair amount and I hadn’t bought one single item until the last 20 mins when I decided I just had to make a purchase just to keep up! Haha so, I ended up buying “Trainspotting” which I have wanted for a long time but never really made a conscious decision to buy it. It only set me back about $15 so I was happy.

After Chaddy I ended up meeting the boys at Cliffy’s again to watch a DVD. Garry was in Chaddy while Cliff, Chris and I began watching “Taking Lives” with Angelina Jolie and Ethan Hawke. I thought it was a decent movie, but it was fairly obvious who the killer was. I give credit to the directors though, the thriller thing has been done so many times it’s hard to make it original anymore, especially with all these new crime shows like CSI (Las Vegas, Miami and the upcoming NY), Law & Order, Cold Case etc. Anyway, after the movie we watched Chris play Half Life 2 then Garry and I decided to leave. It was only about 3am when I left but for some odd reason when I looked at the time on my clock as I got into bed, it showed about 5am. That always happens, I swear, time just ticks right on so fast…

Thursday
Having blown off Steve twice in the last few days, I decided to hold true to my promise and organised to meet 2pm at Melbourne Uni Gym. We swiped in about 3pm and left around 4:45. We both had really late nights, in fact more like morning, so we spent a lot of the 1:45 hours resting.

Around 7:45pm Steve swung by to give me a lift to Henry’s for Poker Night. Poker was fun, in the ring game, I slowly worked my way up during the game, Silent Giant I was hehe. I began by leveraging and borrowing $5 of Steve and ended up with $15.10 in chips at the end. I then paid him back and used the $10 to buy into the “tourney” after the ring game had ended. I didn’t do too well and got eliminated 4th but stayed to watch Steve and Henry battle it out for first. Being out early, I had the chance to see Steve’s cards and it was unbelievable how good his hands were! Even having crappy cards like 4, 9 off-suit, he caught a 4 and a 9 on the flop for a two-pair straight up! I guess when you have the amount of chips he had, you can afford to play such poor cards as that and have some luck come your way. Chip leader for a good majority of the tourney, naturally he finished Henry off and came first. It was around 2:30am then and Garry and I decided to leave. Although I only won 10 cents overall (which I lost on the floor somewhere anyway haha) I played two full games of Texas Hold ‘Em, effectively for free and that experience was worthwhile so I was content. I managed to sleep about 3:30am as well!

Friday (today)
Today I woke up late once again and began downloading the latest episode (ep. 9) of "Laguna Beach." A good majority of today was spent playing FIFA 2004 and WRC II on the PS2 because my mum kicked me off the computer and there was nothing else to do. I went in the backyard and played with KJ for a bit though and tried to get a bit of a tan! It’s now about 5pm and I’ve been trying to put this entry up for a while, just that Telstra is being difficult. I guess it’s my fault downloading about 33gb this month so far, so naturally they’ve capped me to about 64kbits/second which is around 8kbytes/second. Argh!!! Other than that, I don’t have anything planned except the word is that there’s bowling 11:30pm with Garry and Co. Hopefully something interesting will happen and I will have something exciting to write about next time. Till then, take care of yourself, and each other.

The Comeback Kid

Ok, I'm back from my study hiatus people. Actually, probably not much studying involved so more like just a hiatus. Nevertheless, wasn't too impressed with my work ethic during swot vac but hey, all in the past now, I can only hope for the best come December 10. I was fortunate to have only three exams which weren't hardcore like some third year commerce subjects (ones I'll be doing next year!).

So what have I been doing since Friday? Not much actually, despite wanting to go crazy after exams, I've found myself confined somewhat, which can be attributable to two major reasons;
1. Can't drive (well I can but that's a criminal offence and if I got busted I'd either spend 4 mths picking up the proverbial soap or a $5000 fine...or both! Either way, those penalties won't sting as much as not being able to become an accountant because I need to get my CA to think about getting into finance or investment banking coz I know I'm not a hardcore finance freak.)
2. Friends still have exams.

Anyway, I think I've managed to keep myself entertained and I have a new love for television...on the computer. Yes, I mentioned in my previous blogs that I watch shows which I d/l and I've stepped it up a notch since exams has finished. I'm pretty bored half the time so I'm d/l like crazy! I think I'm up to 24gb this month...haha when will they cap me? I can hear the Jim Carrey in me saying, "Sssomebody stop me!"

So what has everyone got planned for these holidays? Any interesting adventures? I myself don't have too much planned but I may be spending a week with friends interstate late this month, maybe Sydney and Gold Coast, although schoolies will still be on so it may not eventuate. It might just be scaled down to a week long fishing trip somewhere along coastal Victoria. I might also be spending a week or two in January hiking with a friend and his cousins, Wilson's Prom perhaps? Not confirmed yet, but other than that I'll be doing summer school which runs from mid Jan - mid Feb. What joy that will be...but I guess it's ok that it's a finance subject, "333-309 Derivative Securities." Better that than Financial Accounting or Auditing! Good thing I knew a few ppl doing it this semester, coz that means I can get their notes. There's no way the staff will be bothered to change the course during the summer so I'll virtually be able to study the whole course before summer semester starts, but em...haha fat chance of that happening.

Anyhoo, it's almost time for soccer so I'm outtie. Enjoy the holidays for all who have begun, and to those that haven't, good luck for exams!

Ahh...summer is almost here...

Only Hope

Mm mm! Thanks to Ann, I managed to catch Mandy on Rove Live. There is hope afterall...hehehe. ; )

Meanwhile I have been up to...nothing. Absolutely nothing...which is quite disturbing seeing as I have three exams coming up soon. Well, actually I've been doing stuff, like d/l many clips and videos and movies. Goodness. In the last two days I've watched two Manchester United matches, Rove Live twice, an episode of "The OC", "The Butterfly Effect" (which is a pretty decent movie btw, storyline exceeded my expectations), the whole series of "The Simple Life 2 - Road Trip" and the latest episode of "Laguna Beach". Hmm, now it's almost 4pm, I just got to Uni and I still haven't started any work. Dammit. Ok I'm going now, good luck to all who have exams!

The Unknown

"Maybe there's a God above,
But all I've ever learned from love,
Is how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya,
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light,
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah"

"Hallelujah" - Jeff Buckley

A skeptic view of love, describing what happens when love is abused. As a result, love isn't something to enjoy, it's a dead emotion, only because of the fact that you've been betrayed by it. As you're hurt, you will never turn to love again. Based on love between two lovers but by no means exclusive.

Written originally by Leonard Cohen and covered by Jeff Buckley. Such a moving song. I implore you guys to d/l the song, listen to it then ease into the lyrics, it'll blow your mind. Enjoy.
