Outtathaway!

Was just thinking whether to post or not today. I reasoned that I'll probably blog after tomorrow night when I see Matthew Bourne's contemporary take on Swan Lake but then realised that I hadn't posted anything on how The Vines at Prince of Wales was. So I'll do it now.

Friday the 13th. Doesn't really hold much meaning for me as I'm not superstitious but thought it was interesting to note nonetheless. That day at work wasn't greatly productive since all the employees were geared up for a huge one that night for a big function which involved donning silly and crazy headgear whilst participating in a pub crawl. I didn't want to miss out so I managed to bring along my afro-wig and a large Taco Bill sombrero I found in my garage (???).

Put in a solid two hours cavorting and carrying on with the work colleagues and then got the call from Dave and Tam to make our way to the Prince of Wales. Immediately after the call, I realised it was just past 8pm and I began to freak out because my car was still in the work carpark which happens to close at 8pm.

Ran back to the car park but it was too late. So Dave picked me up and off the three of us went to St Kilda. We were originally meant to be a party of four, but Garry had assignments due the following Monday so he piked.

When we reached there, we tried to sell the remaining ticket and as luck would have it this young couple were selling theirs too, but only the one ticket. So we worked out that we both would be able to sell our individual tickets a lot easier if we combined forces. Dave, Tam and I started off to find a venue to eat and told the kids that if they found a couple willing to buy two tickets to give us a ring. After walking a few paces down with the guy in tow desperately trying to flog off his ticket, Dave decided to ask someone himself. Again as luck would have it, the first person he asked said he was interested! Score!

Anyway, we went into the hotel at around 8:30pm and saw that the line up included two bands (The Silents and Red Riders) before The Vines started their set at 11:45pm! Anyway, The Silents were pretty good, and I even scored a memorabilia drum stick at the end when their drummer threw his sticks out to the crowd! Red Riders were pretty good as well but I'm still in two minds who I liked better.

The Vines came on and came on strong. They did lots of songs in quick succession and that kept the crowd going and going. I was waiting for "Outtathaway!" and "Get Free" the most and the crowd went OFF! Massive mosh, with crowd surfing aplenty. I was lucky to not get an elbow to the face but it was all in good fun and great spirits (!). The stage lights going rich green for the entirety of their song, "Mary Jane" wasn't lost on me either.

Finished up quite late, maybe around 1ish but still managed to go home and come out again to the city. Big night out. Friday the 13th.

This week as you may have read in my previous post I spent the week in Brisbane on a client. It was okay, stressful at times and posted some long hours but at least I get time in lieu. Worked through Anzac day as well - through crappy sleep because I was awoken at 5am by the sound of trumpets and snare drums since my hotel room was right above the Brisbane Anzac shrine.

Will try to update on how the rest of the weekend pans out.

when it rains, it pours

of the six grads in my group at work i haven't gone out to a client yet where four have. so the other guys were giving me a bit of stick, nudging me and going "maybe there's a reason for it" haha punks.

so i found out late today that i'm going up to brisbane next week.

appears that a client i'm on has done something silly and promised something to someone within a week. this meant the partner had to get us together in a rush today and inform us that we'll be going up monday night and working through the week to get it done by friday. and implicit is the fact that we will be working through Anzac day, although it was mentioned that the team will be getting a long weekend to compensate for the missed public holiday.

so it's all happened in a whirl of activity that instead of waiting till may 7th to go out to my first client somewhere close in the melbourne cbd, i'll be on the plane to the sunshine state next week to put in some hard yards and fix things up for another client. i expect some late nights while up there. and i miss out on this sweet house warming on tuesday night two of the grads organised for the other grads and co-ops where there'll be drinks aplenty and a quiet recovery on anzac wednesday.

welcome to work life.

Easter Weekend 6/4 - 9/4

John Mayer 7/4: Was pretty good, most songs played were from Continuum but managed to squeeze in a few old ones which was appreciated. Also saw Dean Geyer from Australian Idol there, girls were going crazy over him. Don't have any photos from the concert, ask Aileen if you want them.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers 8/4: HUGE. One of the best, if not the best, concert I've been to. Real festive crowd and a massive band to boot! Played a lot of newer songs, but also did some of the old ones like "Give It Away".

RHCP in action at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

Anyway, have The Vines coming up this Friday so that should be a big one as well.
